Ohio ACEP Councillor Candidate

Michael Smith, MD, MBA, CPE, FACEP—Incumbent

Brecksville, Ohio

Dr. Michael Smith is currently an attending physician at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Deeply involved in teaching emergency medicine residents and medical students, Dr. Smith is also a core residency faculty member and associate director of medical student education at MetroHealth.

At the national level, Dr. Smith has served ACEP on a variety of committees, including Council Steering Committee, Council Reference Committee, and Academic Affairs Committee, on which he serves as Chair of both the Medico-Legal and Medical Student Awards Subcommittees.

Dr. Smith has served on the Ohio ACEP Board of Directors and as a Councillor representing Ohio ACEP since 2008 and is a graduate of the Chapter’s first Leadership Development Academy. He has since served the Chapter as Secretary and as President. Dr. Smith also sits on Ohio ACEP’s Medical Education Advisory Committee.

Dr. Smith has served as a Councillor for Ohio ACEP for the last several years and has served twice on a Council Reference Committee. He recognizes the importance of Council as the primary representative governing body of National ACEP, the place where College policies are set and resources are allocated. Dr. Smith is running for reelection because he believes his experience and understanding of Council will enable him to continue representing his fellow Ohio emergency physicians and also help orient new Councillors to serving on Council.
