The EMS Star of Life awards are designed to:
- Honor exceptional EMS personnel from Ohio's EMS Regions
- Reunite EMS providers with the person treated and present the actual patient scenario
- Generate positive media stories regarding pre-hospital care and the EMS Star of Life Award
- Magnify the profile of National EMS Week in the State of Ohio
The EMS Star of Life Awards Ceremony will be celebrated in conjunction with EMS Week 2012. Official event details are still to be determined.
Ohio ACEP celebrated EMS Week with the 13th Annual EMS Star of Life Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 18 at 9 a.m. in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Ohio EMS Awards.

The Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians held the thirteenth annual "EMS Star of Life" Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the Ohio EMS Awards ceremony on May 18, 2011 at the Ohio Department of Public Safety/Ohio Department of Transportation Complex.
The event was designed to honor the accomplishments of EMS personnel from all over the state of Ohio during EMS week. The theme of EMS Week 2011 was "Everyday Heroes". The EMS Star of Life Award honors the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of the medical 'front line.' This is the premier event during EMS week to recognize and honor Ohio's excellent pre-hospital providers.
The Education & EMS Division of Premier Health Care Services, Inc. established the Frank Giampetro Distinguished EMS Educator Award to recognize a dynamic educator who has made notable contributions to the Emergency Medical Services system thus improving the quality of care delivered to the citizens of Ohio.
The award was first presented to Frank Giampetro, EMT-P in 2004. Since then it has been presented to Mary Ann Forrester, EMT-B in 2005, Arthur Ghiloni, EMT-P in 2006, Thomas J. Long, RN, EMT-P, in 2007, Lou Ann Metz, RN, NREMT-P in 2008, Ellie Moore, RN, EMT-P in 2009 and Jennie Riedy, RN, NREMT-P, in 2010. The 2011 Frank Giampetro Distinguished EMS Educator Award was presented to Scott W. Martin, M.Ed., NREMT-P.
