The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) issued Ohio Emergency and Acute Care Facility Opioid and Other Controlled Substances Prescribing Guidelines (OOCS Guidelines) May 2012. These guidelines along with the accompanying patient handouts and pocket card guide were distributed to all hospitals and emergency physicians in Ohio last year in August. The OOCS Guidelines, patient handout, pocket cards and background information can be accessed at ODH’s OOCS webpage.
ODH will be conducting a follow-up survey of hospitals beginning in February or March to determine the extent of implementation of the guidelines in the state and to obtain feedback as to the effectiveness of the guidelines in assisting health care providers with the provision of services.
